Our prize asset Bakary Sako left for the trappings of the Premier League and just two senior players have joined the club permanently.
An indifferent start to the season has put our acquisitions – or lack of – under the spotlight and questions have been raised why the squad is arguably weaker than the side that narrowly missed out on promotion.
So with just days until the transfer window shuts, here are 6 players Wolves should consider bringing to Molineux.
Wolves are lacking width and who would turn their nose up at a return for Viva Matt Jarvis?
He looks to be on his way out of West Ham and a proven player with experience could be just what Jackett’s after.
A move to Wolves could have Jarvis returning to his best and he’s led the club to promotion once so why not again?
Tyler Blackett – Manchester United
The left back is thought highly at Old Trafford but with Matteo Darmian coming in as a full-back and Luke Shaw favoured above Blackett, the 21-year-old has a battle to regain his place.
Scott Goldourne is only left back at the club who offers width and Blackett could be a key addition to the squad to help drive Wolves forward.
Wolves were chasing the Scottish teenager dubbed ‘mini-Messi’ last year.
But he was poached from Dundee United by Sporting Lisbon and was expected to play a part for the Portuguese outfit.
However Gauld made two appearances and played most of his football for Sporting’s B team.
Rumours continue to circulate Gauld wants a return to the UK but with Jorge Jesus joining Sporting from rivals Benfica the new coach may put a halt to that, as Jesus (no, not that one) is renowned for developing youth.
Luke Freeman – Bristol City
A tricky player who can also play centrally and could be the goal scoring midfielder we’ve been crying out for.
But Bristol City have their own ambitions of reaching the Premier League and it may take some cash to prise Freeman away from Ashton Gate.
Daniel Powell – MK Dons
We love a player who is a bit of maverick down at Molineux and Daniel Powell is certainly that.
Another player to come from the MK Dons academy production line, he has pace, a trick or two and an eye for goal – remind you of anyone?
He’s 24 and may be at the stage of looking to move from Stadium:MK a bid from Wolves could bring an exciting player to Wolverhampton.
The sticking point is he has 18 months left on his contract so will command a decent fee.
Jordan McGhee – Hearts
McGhee is highly thought of north of the border and was a regular in the Hearts defence that ran riot with The Scottish Championship.
The Scotland U21 international has been linked with Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich and even Champions League finalists Juventus were reported to be interested in taking him from Tynecastle.
At 19 years of age and already seen as a leader he fits the criteror of Wolves’ ‘young and hungry’ plan.
A bid of £500,000 was understood to have been turned down by the Jam Tarts but a figure closer to £1 million may bring a real talent to England.
